Hi All!
Call me crazy, but I’ve been dipping my toes back into short-format videos. I really do enjoy making these and using it as a way to share some of my vintage collection.
Here’s two lovely little purses I shared this week:
Text shared (with added bullet points for clarity, since I can do that here!)
What little time capsule is hidden inside the bottom of the shredded lining of this 1920s purse? How daring!
- The purse itself is black velvet with metal and glass beads.
- The inside liner is a shredded, once striped fabric, in white and blue silk.
- It has a cotton interlining.
- Basket motifs are some of my favorites of all time
- **I do not smoke and don’t recommend it. Just wanted to share the cool find.
(You know, because sharing on social media or YouTube, I have to add that last bit for clarity).
And the second purse:
Another interesting little antique bag.
It’s hard to date this one, as it could easily have been made from the 1900s through the 1930s.
- It’s almost entirely hand sewn, other than the strap handle.
- This likely could have been someone’s “stash buster” project.
- I’m undecided if it’s a little purse, a collar bag for detachable collars, or just a little novelty to help with organizing. What do you think?
- It’s made of a floral cotton with a neat ribbed woven-in design.
- I think it’s likely the “hoop” could be the backside of an embroidery hoop, though perhaps hoops were made for just such crafty purposes. I’m not sure!
- The little buttons are pink glass with a rhinestone center (one stone missing).
- The top and bottom are some sort of heavy card stock or paper, carefully covered by hand from rounds of cotton.
- The gathers are stitched by hand around the hoop, and again by hand to the covered board bottom.
- The strap with the buttonhole is also done by hand.
Just a charming little relic of times past.
Both of these lovely little bags came from a local spot that always has hidden little treasures coming in. Did I need more antique bags to stash away? Nope! But do I enjoy sharing the details and close-ups of how they are made? Certainly!
Have a beautiful week!
