>Swoon-worthy Singing- Skinnay Ennis

>I have never much been a gal for swooning over the normal crooners.  Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra don’t send me.
Enter Skinnay (or Skinny) Ennis.  I first heard him crooning on Hal Kemp recordings, and I admit his voice is just dreamy!  His voice is so smooth and lovely it makes me nearly weak in the knees.
Much to my surprise I just heard his voice on a commercial on TV!  He was on a cruise commercial singing “It’s Winter Again”. Combine Hal Kemp’s music with Skinnay Ennis’ voice and it’s a dream come true!

I never actually saw a photo of him, but then saw him in “College Swing” from 1938 with Betty Grable.  Awesome movie, dreamy clothing.  You’ve got to see it!  For some reason I pictured him completely different than how he looked.  I can’t find a clip on youtube, but rent it if you can cause it’s a darling movie and very silly.

    >I never was much for Bing or Frank either…they sing nice, and I like their voices, but I never understood what all the fuss was about. I prefer Dean Martin. ;)

    >Couldn't agree more. I prefer the arangements of older music. It has more swing and less sugary violins.

    >LOVE Skinnay Ennis! That short that khriste posted has my favorite Balboa clip ever, too (Three Little Words). He's also the bandleader for the dance scene in Blondie Meets the Boss, you can find that on YouTube. I haven't been able to find many commercial recordings for him – not sure if he didn't record much, or if they haven't been released on CD – but he worked with Bob Hope so you can hear his band on the old radio programs.

    >On your recommendation, I went to add College Swing to my Netflix queue, and realized it was already there! Bumped it to the top & probably gonna watch it next week!
