New Pattern- R160 1950s Skirt with Scalloped Detailing

Hurrah! New pattern time! Early 1950s skirt with scalloped detail is available as an e-pattern download (with A0 and print at home) and a printed pattern.

This fun early 1950s skirt has a unique scalloped detailing that reminds me *oh so much* of the midcentury detailing a certain land in a certain place in California, so I think it would be perfect for “bounding”.

This pattern was a quite small original size and has been graded carefully to include sizes 24″-42″ waist all in the same packet. Note that there is very little to no waist ease (even though I added more), so if you desire more ease or are between sizes you’ll want to size up on this one.

This one was quite a challenge, deceptively! I had to do a lot of fiddling, including redrafting the scallops for each size individually. It took me about twice as long as I expected, but I think the end result is fun!

This one works best with a petticoat underneath (petticoat pattern not included). It also works best with fabrics for the scallops which are darker than the skirt base. My one I made in me-size had white scallops and you can see the turned under seam allowance- so my little half-scale here was whipped up to share instead!

You can find it now, both on my website and on Etsy.

And shoutout to the wonderful @backroomfinds who found this original beauty. I knew I had to adopt it as soon as I saw it. It was the most meticulously presented, counted, checked pattern I have ever bought. So if you’re after original vintage I *very highly* recommend checking out her shop, and her fun YouTube videos, too!

That’s it! Happy sewing! Hope your Spring is going marvelously!
