Wearing History Podcast Episode 1!

Hooray!  My very first podcast!

In this podcast I have answered some “get to know you” type questions supplied by my readers on Instagram and Facebook about me.

If you wondered more about who I am, how I started sewing, where I went to school, and when I started my buisness, this is the podcast!  I also talk about my sewing failure and success and a few other questions.

I hope you enjoy the podcast!

My sewing success:  My Tissot Dress.  Blog post here.

Sewing Failure:  My first Victorian ballgown.  Working on seeing if I can track down images of that.  Trust me, it was bad! Not because it was civil war, or because it was polyester (both of those can be great dresses), it was just bad fit, bad sewing, and bad fabric choice for a dress well beyond my skills at that point!

I really enjoyed this! It’s neat to hear how you were able to follow your passion.

I had a similar experience loving vintage before it was considered desirable (and wasn’t even known as “vintage”). I just always loved old things and history! And what you said is so true regarding just how much information is available to us now, vs. when we were basically limited to what we could find at our local library.

It didn’t work out for me, but when I was younger I also hoped to study fashion design & costuming at FIDM. Later on, I realized costuming probably wouldn’t have suited me very well long-term, and hoped to end up working with textiles and costume in a museum setting.

Appreciated the mention of higher-cut armholes. Modern ready-to-wear and many sewing patterns tend to have low-cut, and the sleeve shape often seems to be poorly drafted resulting in poor fit in that area.

I look forward to your future podcasts!

I’m curious about the same thing! I would love to be able to download it to my phone to listen when I don’t have internet connection at work or while I’m driving.

Your podcast is lovely! I’m starting to listen to it while working on my own historic sewing- it’s so nice to connect with people with the same interests!! :)
