Duchie Award

Thank you so much to Lauren of the American Duchess blog and historical footwear for awarding me this blog award!

Lauren says:

“When you receive a Duchie Award, post on your blog (in any order):

  • Five things you love about historical costuming/wearing vintage clothing
  • Three (or more) blogs to pass the Duchie Award onto
  • A link back to the blog who awarded you the Duchie”

Five Things I Love About Historical Costuming/Wearing Vintage Clothing

  1. When else am I going to get the excuse to buy 6+ yards of silk?
  2. Visiting places in clothing historical to the period is so much fun and makes history really come alive for me.
  3. Trimming! Trim is shamefully underused in most clothing, but with historical costuming I can layer trim on trim on trim to add dimension.  I also like getting inspired by a single trim, and it’s fun to plan outfits around something shiny/dimensional/what have you.
  4. Hats!  I love hats.  The bigger, the more stuff on them, the better.
  5. Learning more sewing skills.  Period and historical sewing has really opened a lot of doors for me to learn new sewing skills that aren’t always utilized in making modern clothing.  A lot of these skills are becoming lost arts, so it’s fun to try my hand at things like millinery and tailoring.

Now to pick three blogs!  That’s the hard part, because I enjoy reading so many.  American Duchess says “These blogs exhibit particularly awesome content, with thorough articles and regular updates on their costuming adventures, events attended, and research done.”  So in no particular order, I am passing on the award to these three:

  • This Old Life– Nabby is so creative with her approach to reproducing fashions of the 1930s.  I love her the way she creatively makes over thrift store knits to make fashionable 1930s knitwear on a budget.
  • Festive Attyre– Jen’s blog is a feast for the eyes, and she combines her clever photography skills with her massive talent for historical costuming.
  • V is for Vintage–  Beth sews both vintage reproductions and historic costumes, and posts frequently about 1930s and 1940s swing style as well.  She also documented creating a Regency ensemble for her husband in her other blog, Fashioning Beau Brummel.

Thank you again to American Duchess for the blog award!

Yay! It’s so well-deserved :-). I also love how two of the 3 blogs you posted I have not been to before, and am thrilled to have more to feed my addiction, er, I mean “interest.” heheh :-)
