>Polka Dots, Florals, and Boleros- 1939

>Hello!
Spring is now underway! Do you have any Spring fashions you’re in love with or are making?  I admit I’ve been a bit scattered lately (as evidenced by the sporadic blog posting these last few weeks!).  In sewing and fashion I’m being just as scattered- part of me wants bold and wild prints to make up in snappy dresses and separates from the 1930s and 1940s, sort of like shown in this page from 1939, and part of me wants the softness of lace, ivory, silk, and sheer cotton like from the Edwardian era.

Do you ever have conflicting areas of what inspires you?  How do you go about tackling them and keeping your creativeness in check to get projects done? I’ll be posting more things from earlier periods coming up here as I settle into my bigger project, but I also need to finish up an early 40s play suit I started last year, so I’m trying to keep inspired!
In shop news, despite my lack of big posting there have been some hats added to the Etsy store and also a new e-book went up today on the website- from a vintage 50s comic book sewing manual I have that really would be a great jump start for those starting out in vintage sewing, or just fun to have on hand as reference.
Oh yes! I forgot to mention I got my hair permed yesterday! Still a few days left before I can play with a vintage set, but I’ll try to post results here. I was so tired of having my curls fall flat after a day (or less!).
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

    >My taste may be a little more Edwardian at the moment, but I get that scattered feeling too.The e-book looks great, thanks for posting.

    >My tastes are always scattered because my favorite styles aren't the styles that look best on me. Then there is the dilemma of sleek, black and fashionable vs pastel, floral and lacey. My husband and I have a big date night coming up and I'm torn between making a 2 piece, somewhat fussy 30s outfit in green gingham or a black 40's 40's wrap dress that couple pass for modern.

    >My problem is that I love too many things. I'm trying to be more organized and plan out what I need and what I want in terms of sewing. For spring, I opted for mostly separates and one color scheme. Of course, I'm not even done with everything on my list and I'm already dreaming about (and shopping for) summer sewing so it's definitely a process in process.

    >I'm looking forward to seeing how your perm turned out!I've been scattered as well lately. I'm wanting to knit short-sleeved smart sweaters to wear with trousers and jeans, but at the same time am enjoying all my Western-inspired clothes right now, and am about to launch into a skirt with a crazy novelty print. I seem to want a little of everything right now and can't decide on anything unfortunately!

    >Indeed, dispersal is a major problem in me, it is usual to have so many things on my mind and do not know which it started ….. I'm looking forward to seeing your hair permed!

    >Yes please update about the perm. I have stereotypical stick straight black Chinese hair that can barely hold a wet set for even a day. A wet set done in pin curls and with setting lotion. *sigh* Sometimes I wonder if there are more tips on vintage hair styles for Asians out there, I haven't found any through my google searches. I also can't help but wonder what Asian women living in North America during the 30s-60s did with their hair. Left it in Asian styles? Or adopted curls?

    >I've never really been into 30s fashion, but I think you've converted me, Lauren! I really enjoyed your post on 1930s collegiate fashion. I'll be a freshman this year, and am starting to put together my wardrobe for college this fall. I'm taking my inspiration from the 1930s and 40s! So excited! My one BIG weakness, however, is vintage shoes, especially shoes from the Edwardian and Roaring 20s. Have you ever heard of Remix Vintage? Love their shoes!

    >Oooh! I'm loving these bright, snappy ensembles!Funny you should mention being inspired by two different looks, because that is just where I'm stuck right now too. lol. Part of me is desperately wanting to sport the full blown 40s/50s look, and the other is into an Edwardian/romantic 70s-hippie thing. I just end up bouncing back and forth from day to day! ;) Oh, and I have to tell you: I whipped up one of the hats from your 30s toppers pattern (view 3) over the weekend and it's SO DARN CUTE!!! (Sorry for the caps, but I'm really excited about it.) Definitely plan on getting some snapshots and doing a post this week! ;) I used some white linen and vintage plaid ribbon and it's adorable; I seriously cannot wait for an excuse to wear it. ♥ Casey
