Here’s a few head shots I have been holding onto for hair inspiration to share. Dating photos from hair alone is a bit difficult for me as I’m a bit more of a clotheshorse, but I’d say these dated from around the mid 30s to the early or mid 40s.
I think this unknown lady is just stunning. The lighting in the photo is certainly old Hollywood worthy! I love her waves!
I have a thing for old photobooth pictures. I blame Amelie. There’s just something so romantic about them. Maybe they were for passports or for a lover who was leaving on a trip or off to war, or to give to friends or mail to family back home. The girl on the left is wearing a darling sweater with laced detail and what looks like it could be an angora sweater or some sort of fuzzy jacket. I really love the photo of the girl on the right. Doesn’t she look terribly in love? And I love her little wispy hair sticking up on top- it just looks so fun. Notice the pencil thin eyebrows on both gals. I would say the one on the left could be a tad earlier but I would guess both are from the second half of the 1930s.
Gotta love big 40s hair. My husband gave me the photo of the girl on the left since she came in a vintage frame he found. I love her ruffles and how her hairstyle looks just casually piled on top of her head. The girl on the right is named Louise and she’s wearing such a quintessentially 40s style and a sequined dress or jacket.
Hmm. Now I kind of want to try a new hair set!

I would go to the Pasadena Flea Market and look at old photos for what felt like forever – the guy was probably wondering if I was going to buy any! I especially loved the photos with notes on the back. One was a girl on her front porch in the '40s and it said, "This is what I wear when I come home from work." I just thought that was a peculiar thing to write! And who was it for?? A beau overseas?? Photos like that one were special to someone at some point, and here they were just piled together with other people's photos in a plastic bin at a flea market. Anyway, your post reminded me of that day! :)
