>Some Sewing- a Western Style 1950s Blouse

>The way I started my New Year… there has been some sewing! *Gasp*
I was going through patterns for Etsy and was really taken with this one. Not at first- it was one of those ones that I went… “hmmm…. another 50s blouse”.  I even scanned it in and fixed up the images, but the more I looked at it the more I liked it, so decided to make it up for myself to go with the dark green pants I just made.  1930s pants… 1950s shirt… eh, whatever.  Clothes are clothes and I like what I like.  In day to day I mix and match whatever strikes my fancy, and I admit I have a definite weakness for western style accents in clothing.

Still in the works, but it’s coming along!  I feel a bit rusty in my sewing skills… it’s funny how you set it down for a bit and it takes a while for those sewing muscles to get flexing again.  Does anyone else get that as well?
This pattern was rated “Simple to Make” by Simplicity in 1954, but I admit it has some of my least favorite things! Plackets and collars and flaps and pockets- oh my!  I got this vintage fabric from an estate sale a few months ago.  I didn’t cut my plaid right and put the pocket on the wrong side… but I still like it anyways :)  Hopefully I’ll get the sleeves on soon (I’m choosing the short puffed sleeves), and get it all finished up early this week then can share some pics of it with the trousers!
The pattern is Simplicity 4813, and there’s several copies floating around for sale right now if you want to go after one yourself.  I’m excited about pairing mine up with a pair of Freddies for day-to-day wear when I’m in a more casual mood!

Hope your New Years Day has been lovely and relaxing. Here’s to much fun sewing and creating in 2011!

    >When I started sewing after a few years off, I knew what to do in my head, but my fingers were really, really stupid. Nice pattern, I like the back interest. V. nice. For what it's worth, I don't consider mixing decades a cardinal sin.

    >Ah… good to know I'm not the only one :)I'm with you, Steph- re: mixing eras. If it's event specific I'll go all out and be period correct but for day to day I wear what I like :)Sara, you should learn! It takes a little getting used to but it sure is fun and nice to make what you want to wear :) Maybe a local sewing machine store or community college offers classes by you?

    >It looks so cute! Great pattern, I'm glad you kept it. You know, I bet the pattern would have been "simple to make" if you hadn't picked that super cute plaid. You over-achiever, you!

    >Lol! So true… maybe I should have picked something simpler. Maybe a thin stripe or a gingham or solid. Depending on how it comes out maybe I'll try it again :)
