What a gorgeous day it was today in Southern California! It was my cousin’s birthday and we went for a visit with family, a beach walk, and a wonderful dinner out. Quite a lovely day! I thought I’d share a few photos

Since a few of you have asked over time to see me in a non-vintage outfit, this is also a sort of outfit post. This is me on a “good” everyday day. I don’t usually post photos of me unless I’m in “dress up”, but here ya go

Outfit details:
Glasses: Vintage, from Etsy. My tried and true daily pair. I seldom wear contacts.
Dress: Express, thrifted.
Necklace and flower brooch: Vintage, estate sale finds
Shoes: Indigo by Clark’s
Hair Flower: Courtesy of my husband, from an obliging bush.

Ah,what pretty photos!I’d love to make a collection of clothes someday inspired by places like that, with the beach and kinda desert look,as well.
Thanks! It is really inspiring- the beach is most of what my clothing dreams are inspired by, too!
Lovely! We’re just getting a decent week here in the Mitten; upper 40s-50s, but really windy, which is unusual. Hopefully Spring is on its way to us! Your dress is great ~~ At first, I thought it was a skort covering a bathing suit and thought you looked so stylish on the beach that way! :^)
Oh wow! We had quite a warm winter here for us, it feels funny to not have had to break out the scarves or hats at all (which you probably would laugh at us for, since our cold is probably nothing for your weather).
Thanks! It was a thrift store find and is super comfy since the top portion is knit. That’s a great idea to use a skort as a cover up!
The beach looks so beautiful! As do you
And I can’t wait until your new pattern comes out!
Thank you so much! I can’t wait until the new pattern’s out, too. Hehehe. I keep getting distracted by 1920s and 1940s things and have FORCED myself not to dabble in other eras, even for personal sewing projects, until they’re complete!
We just go around 5 inches of SNOW last night. I am SOOOOO envious of you and your sunshine, beach weather and tank dress. I live on the shore of Lake Michigan, so we get to beach in the summer, but lake effect snow showers in the winter, like last night. Looks more like Christmas here that a couple of weeks until spring.
BTW…I LOVE your blog, as does my 10 year old daughter. Do you have a book that I could get that could help us both learn the basics of sewing? She is interested, but I know basically nothing. I would like to learn as well. My daughter loves Grace Kelly, Ginger Rogers and Audrey Hepburn as her inspirations. I would love to be able to sew her clothing that would work from the looks of the era. Thanks for any help you and toss my way.
Oh goodness! I hope spring is on it’s way to you soon!
Thank you so much for your comment and compliment! I’m not really sure what book to recommend for beginning sewing, though I know both Collette patterns and Burda recently came out with sewing books which are well received.

For vintage sewing books I really like the Singer Sewing Book from the late 30s/early 40′s by Mary Brooks Picken. Pretty much anything by that author I recommend, though it may be better to start with a more modern sewing book and then get a vintage one to build on top of techniques learned.
This post makes me miss southern CA!!! (And the Gulf Coast in FL too… Somehow even though we’re still near the water, it isn’t the same!
I adore your outfit–it’s a fun mix of vintage and modern–so cute!!!!
Aww! Come visit sometime and we can go to the beach
Thank you! That means a lot coming from you since your daily style is so inspirational!
My gosh, it looks just like a summer day! How wonderful. And you look great, so happy and carefree, and those are fantastic glasses.
Thank you! It was such a nice sunny day, it almost felt like summer!
