>1942 Plaid Blouse

>The weekend before last was the Fort MacArthur Air Raid, a living history event that portrays the day in 1942 when “enemy planes” flew over Los Angeles, know in history as “The Battle of Los Angeles”. I admit that before I started to go to dance/event that I had no idea this took place at all!
This dance has a reputation for being COLD.  Very cold.  Of course we’re wussy So Cal’ers so anything feels cold to us, but get us on a windy or rainy day on ocean cliffs and watch us shiver after dark! Because I really hate the cold I made up a slip and bloomers in peach flannel, but the bloomers were a bit too bulky to wear  under my wool skirt, so the flannel slip was the only one to make an outing.  For the blouse I used this DuBarry pattern from 1942 and accented it with a big ol’ vintage plastic button from the stash of doom.  The fabric was plaid flannel that was on clearance at Joann’s. Score!

V for Victory, not “peace out, man”. This is me on my husband’s car.  We drove all the way from SD to San Pedro for this, and he removed his bumpers and hubcaps to celebrate scrapping metal for the war effort.

These photos are by the very talented Gar Travis, who’s pictures from the Event are up here.  I just posted a few to show the blouse, but if you want to see pics of the event that capture the total essence of it, you might want to check out the link! The flannel on flannel on wool did the trick! Wasn’t cold at all at night, and it was still light enough to have some fun jitterbugging on the dance floor.
Now back to normal boring real life stuff… and taxes. Ick!

    >Beautiful job on the shirt! I would sew everything in plaids if it weren't such a pain in the butt.

    >Ah, so cute! And I'm sure I have told you a million times, but I am so envious that your DH is into this stuff!

    >Your DH is so cute taking off his bumpers (let alone loving the vintage car! Wow). I'm getting mine used to Glenn Miller and Artie Shaw at the moment. Next we'll go to a little dance hall I've heard about. The clothes will insidiously work their way into his wardrobe. You look just maaahvelous, darling. So very 40's, its remarkable. Well done. I love your Coke ad poses.

    >Too, too cute! I love that plaid blouse–especially the oversized button (my favorites for adding to projects! :). I especially love your saddle shoes; what brand are they? I really am hoping this year to ask for a pair for my birthday. ;)♥ Caseyblog | elegantmusings.com
