>A bit farther back- Sweaters, 1919

>

Do you ever look in old catalogs, old photos, old movies, and see something that reminds you of yourself?  That’s the way I always feel when I see the girls in catalogs from the WWI era.  It’s like I’m staring at who I would have been if I had lived back then.  The girl in the mustard sweater above reminds me so much of myself when I was a young teenager.

I’m quite taken with all of these sweaters.  I wish I could just magically send in an order form and have them appear in perfect state.  I was actually watching one very similar to some of these on Ebay last week and it went for over $300.  But isn’t it gorgeous?

Hope everyone’s having a great week!

    >I have a real soft spot for WWI era fashions–especially the sweaters! I think it's the cute sailor and shawl collars of this era that I like so much; they're just cute and whimsical and the colors are so lively (not anything like what you'd imagine looking at black and white photos from the period)!I know what you mean about just wishing you could send away for something… I feel that way all the time looking through my old magazines! haha! Ah, for a time machine to go back and raid all the clothing stores… haha!♥ Caseyblog | elegantmusings.com

    >I'm aching to buy a WW1-era pattern, but fear they may be terribly unflattering on me. I need a waist!

    >The knitter in me eyes that and thinks "It wouldn't be so hard to knit that." I'm sure a search of ravelry.com would yield a pattern, it would be a fairly simple top-down raglan I'm thinking. Hmmm… In a cozy soft medium blue, with red or white stripes… (I don't do mustard)

    >So cute! And I'm loving that colour! I've been thinking about learning to knit so that I can make stuff like that. Or I could just find a knitter to trade skills with!

    >I would die to own a sweater like that except then I'd never get to wear it…
